Mine electrification is growing in importance across Canada; however, battery-electric utility vehicles can have significant energy demands. To best integrate these vehicles into mining operations we need to determine what their optimal use looks like. To address this need, CanmetMINING’s researchers have developed a first principles energy consumption model for BEVs in mine settings. In testing across 4 different scenarios, the model’s simulations provided results that were accurate within 3% of actual values measured on site.
