A new publication from CanmetMINING’s researchers entitled “Removal of Heavy Metals from Mine Water Using a Hybrid Electrocoagulation-Ceramic Membrane Filtration Process” is now available in the Journal of Desalination and Water Treatment. This publication demonstrates the effectiveness of combining electrocoagulation and ceramic membrane filtration to remove heavy metals (e.g., Co, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb, Zn) from real mine effluents. The resulting filtrate from this hybrid process satisfies all current environmental regulations for heavy metal concentrations. Therefore, this process offers new opportunities for mining operations to safely discharge and/or recirculate their treated mine water. In addition to mining, this process could also apply to metallurgical and metalworking (electroplating) operations to remove toxic metals from effluents. Read the full article here.
